Privacy notice

This notice explains what information the survey application handles, why it is used, and the choices available to participants. Last updated 1 October 2026.

Who is responsible for this study?

Emmanuel Tettey Boakye is conducting this MSc research in Energy and Sustainable Management at KNUST. Privacy questions and withdrawal requests may be sent to contact@ghanapetroleumsurvey.com.

Information collected in the questionnaire

The questionnaire records a random study code, coded survey answers, optional free-text answers, and the times the questionnaire was started and completed. It asks for broad work and background categories. It does not ask for your name, employer, exact job title, exact address or date of birth.

Optional interview contact information

If you choose to be considered for a follow-up interview, the separate contact form records your study code, email address or telephone number, preferred contact method, suitable contact times and submission time. Contact information is stored in a separate table from questionnaire answers and is visible only in the interview-contact view of the restricted researcher dashboard.

Screening information

If screening ends the questionnaire, the application saves no survey answers and no study code. It increases only an anonymous screen-out count.

Browser storage

The questionnaire does not save a draft of your answers in browser storage. If you refresh or close the page before submitting, your in-progress answers will be lost. A temporary session marker may be used only to avoid counting the same screen-out more than once. The public survey does not intentionally use advertising or analytics trackers.

How the information is used

Questionnaire information is used to analyse petroleum workers' views, career adaptability, training intentions and barriers. Optional contact information is used only to arrange possible study follow-up. Contact details are not displayed in the survey-response table.

Storage and service providers

The application is hosted on Vercel and stores study records in a Neon Postgres database. These providers may process limited technical and security logs under their own service settings. The application uses pseudonymised, short-lived rate-limit records to protect forms and login endpoints; it does not store raw IP addresses in the research database.

Access and security

The site uses HTTPS. Research records are available only through password-protected server routes. Administrative sessions use signed, HTTP-only cookies. Database credentials and other secrets are kept on the server and are not sent to participants' browsers.

How long information is kept

Study records will be kept only for the period required by the study data-management plan and applicable university requirements, then securely deleted. Optional contact details will be deleted when they are no longer needed for study follow-up.

Your choices

You may leave non-screening questions blank, stop before submitting, or decline the optional interview form. After submission, you may request withdrawal by emailing the researcher with your study code. Withdrawal remains possible while the record can still be located by that code and has not been fully anonymised into combined analysis.

Questions or requests

Email contact@ghanapetroleumsurvey.com. Include your study code for a withdrawal request, but do not send survey answers by email.
