Participant information sheet

Please read this information before deciding whether to take part in the Petroleum Workforce Energy Transition Survey.

What is the study about?

This MSc research study explores how petroleum workers in Ghana view the energy transition, their career strengths, and training for low-carbon energy roles. It is interested in workers' experiences and opinions. There are no right or wrong answers.

Why have I been invited?

The survey is intended for adults who currently work as employees or contracted workers in the petroleum value chain and whose petroleum work involves activities or operations in Ghana, including offshore work.

What will taking part involve?

The questionnaire takes about 10 minutes. It asks about your work in broad categories, your awareness and views of the energy transition, career strengths, intentions to undertake training, and possible training barriers. After submission, you may separately choose whether to provide contact details for a possible follow-up interview.

Do I have to take part?

No. Taking part is voluntary. You may skip any survey question, stop before submission, or decline the optional interview contact form. These choices will have no effect on your job.

Are there any possible disadvantages?

Some questions concern career worries, future work and training barriers. These topics may feel uncomfortable. You may leave any such question blank or stop the survey.

Are there any benefits?

There is no guaranteed direct personal benefit. Your responses may help the research describe petroleum workers' perspectives on career development and the energy transition.

How will my responses be handled?

Please do not enter your name, employer or exact job title in the questionnaire. The survey creates a random study code and stores responses under that code. Survey answers and optional interview contact details are kept in separate database tables. Research access is restricted, and findings should be presented in combined form rather than as identifiable individual responses.

More detail is available in the privacy notice.

What happens if I am not eligible?

If a screening answer ends the questionnaire, no survey answers or study code are saved. The system records only one anonymous addition to the screen-out total.

Can I withdraw after submitting?

Keep the study code shown after submission. To request withdrawal, email contact@ghanapetroleumsurvey.com and include that code. Contact the researcher as soon as possible. A record can be removed while it can still be located by study code; once data have been fully anonymised and incorporated into combined analysis, removing an individual contribution may no longer be possible.

What about the optional interview?

The contact form appears only after questionnaire submission. Supplying contact details does not commit you to an interview. If invited, you may decline. Interview arrangements and consent will be discussed separately, and any audio recording would require separate permission.
